Fun Stuff
* James Brolin was attached to play the Col. Samuel Trautman role after Richard Crenna died, but the role was written out of the script
* Stallone originally set out to make this film before Rocky Balboa (2006), but Rocky was green-lighted by MGM, and he had to put Rambo on hold
* This is the first Rambo film to be directed by Sylvester Stallone
* This is the first Rambo film without a score composed by Jerry Goldsmith
* During its long development process, 'Rambo' went through a number of story premises. One un-produced script featured Rambo living a quiet life with wife and child, until white supremacists kidnap his family. Another script found Rambo trying to stop a hostage situation at the United Nations, where he is working as a diplomat, when terrorists (including Rambo's adopted son) take hold of the UN headquarters in New York
* Has a kill count of 236, the most for any Rambo film
* This is the first Rambo film in the series that does not feature a companion novel written by Rambo's creator David Morrell. Morell wrote the novel "First Blood" on which that movie was based, and subsequently wrote novelizations of the 'Rambo: First Blood Part II' and 'Rambo III'. No novelization has been published for 'Rambo
* Ted Kotcheff who directed First Blood (1982), the original of the Rambo series, acts as a technical consultant on this particular installment
* Julie Benz was cast as Sarah because Sylvester Stallone was a big fan of the TV show "Dexter" (2006) in which she stars in
* Although banned in Myanmar (formally Burma) by the military government, bootlegs of the movie are a hot item. Burmese Freedom Fighters have even adopted dialogue from the movie (most notably "Live for nothing, or die for something";) as rallying points and battle cries. "That, to me," said Sylvester Stallone, "is one of the proudest moments I've ever had in film
* Averages 2.59 killings per minute
Crew or equipment visible: During the ending gun battle scene when the camera switches to view the right side of En-joo (Tim Kang) you see a shot of the camera equipment behind him. (This is when he climbs up the steps to the upper tower for cover and better shooting position)
Memorable quotes
John J. Rambo: When you're pushed, killing's as easy as breathing
John J. Rambo: Y'know what you are, what you're made of. War is in your blood. When you're pushed, killing's as easy as breathing
John J. Rambo: Burma's a warzone
John J. Rambo: Are you bringing in any weapons
Burnett: Of course not
John J. Rambo: You're not changin' anything
Reverend Arthur Marsh: Lord, make me your instrument of peace. Where there is hatred, let me bring love. Where there is darkness, light. For it is in giving we receive. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned. It is in dying... that we awake to eternal life
John J. Rambo: Live for nothing... Or die for something... Your call
John J. Rambo: You didn't kill for your country... you killed for yourself
Sarah: You know you never told us your name
John Rambo: John
Sarah: Lived here a long time
John Rambo: Long time
Burnett: We'd like to rent you boat. We need to get up river
John J. Rambo: Where
Burnett: Burma
John J. Rambo: Burma's a war zone. Its suicide
Burnett: More like genocide
John J. Rambo: ~censored~ the world
Burnett: What did you do We came here to help stop the killing! Who are you to
John Rambo: [grabs Burnett by the throat, and slams him up against a support beam] Who are you
Sarah: Let him go!
John Rambo: They would've raped her fifty times... and cut your ~censored~ heads off. Who are you Who are any of you
Sarah Miller: Maybe you've lost your faith in people. But you must still be faithful to something. You must still care about something. Maybe we can't change what is. But trying to save a life isn't wasting your life, is it
John Rambo: Why'd you come back
Sarah: Waiting for you
John Rambo: I told you before, I can't help you
Sarah: Well we need to go and help these people, we're here to make a difference, we believe all lives are special
John Rambo: Some lives, some not
Sarah: Really If everyone thought like you, nothing would ever change
John Rambo: Nothing does change
Sarah: Of course it does! Nothing stays the same
John Rambo: Live your life cause you've got a good one
Sarah: It's what I'm trying to do!
John Rambo: No, what you're trying to do is change what is
Sarah: And what is
John Rambo: Go home
Sarah: What do we do
School Boy: Nothing we can do
Lewis: God didn't save you, we did
Encoder notes
Normal filters, BAD interlacing on the R5 DVD9 which led to a few issues
with the rip of the video and also cuased audio sync issues with the claimed
5.1 english audio
Dealt with the interlacing , then after spending time with the 5.1 from the DVD
after i increased the volume, I noticed a lot of parts were the audio
just didnt say "i am true 5.1" as many of you most likely found out to the
pain of your ears, it was bloody awful. So used the audio from the
Rambo.2008.WORKPRINT.X264-NOGRP, which even that it had many many sync
issues which after 256 fixes and 4 days of sorting i hope i have fixed it all
I have adjusted the audio in parts and thought it was good enough for AC3 5.1
The audio has been tested on my 2.1 pc system and sounds nice loud and crisp
but on my 2 channel tv its quite low....But higher than the original 5.1 audio
from the DVD
Oh and i did the 5.1 becuase there ar those lucky ones with the systems, so
do tell us what the sounds like with you
ADDED NOTES
This took longer to get to you due to not having a internet connection due to
issues with our line and not haveing my quad core machine up due to hardware
failure, mainly ocz memory and seagate 750gb sata HDD that wouldnt stop clicking
and scratches...yet passed every health test, but failed a stress test
Jumper, never happened becuase of audio discontueities, which all credit to DR HO
wasnt really his fault becuase at least he had the balls to do what a lot of
Groups and im talking scene groups just dont do these days compared to 7 years ago
AVP2.....well wasnt that just a pain in the arse . I have no idea why doinga rip
of this was causing s many issues but it did . Much of the time even when i was
doing clear rips ensureing all the scenes were there, when it came to loading it
in many applications only 2 frames showed up and even the audio would be messed up
And finally
I have named it RAMBO becuase thats ofically its title, not rambo 4 as that was one of
the numerous work title names
